HP Desk Jet 3700 Offline Error

If you are unable to connect to the printer, it indicates the offline status. The printer may go offline due to some network conditions although it is not expected. The printer will not print if it is offline. To resolve this issue follow the below given steps

Step 1 : HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity

  • You have to follow these steps if your computer does not have Windows 8 or 10 otherwise skip to the next step. Check whether the printer is turned on and paper is installed.
  • Check whether the USB cable is connected properly between the printer and the computer if you are using a USB cable. Check your network cable is connected to the printer and your network router or hub if you are using a network cable. Check whether the wireless ligh is on. If not press the wireless button to turn on the connectivity
  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the computer you are trying to print. Double- Click the HP Print and Scan Doctor on the windows Desktop. Click START and select your printer and click next.
  • If a screen displays with Selected product is not connected, click your connection type, and then respond to the information provided. Wait for the screen updates after clicking the Fix printing
  • Review the information and click the Test Print. Close the Print and Scan doctor window if the test page prints otherwise click No print  continueRestart Computer to install updates. If your printer is still offline., continue to the next step

Step 2 : Default printer setting and unpause printer

  • Choose the default print driver as it may have change due to installation of another driver such as Web services fo devices with a similar name
  • Switch on the printer and Search for devices in Windows.click Devices and Printers
  • Continue to the next step if a color or grey icon displays with a green checkmark. If the icon display without a checkmark, right-click the color icon and Set as Default Printer should be selected to continue to the next step. You need to do the same if one color and one grey icon displays for our printer
  • Select the See What’s Printing by right-clicking on the default printer. The printer queue window opens. Click Printer.Continue to the next step if your printer does not go online

Step 3: Printer Reset and connection status check

  • Reset the printer to restore the connection and check the status of the printer
  • You can start troubleshooting if the printer starts printing jobs from the printer queue.
  • The printer might be online if the printer goes to an idle state after its startup routine and continue the steps if the computer still shows the printer as offline.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the printer and wait for some time. While waiting you can plug in the power cord back.
  • After making proper connections, switch on the printer and ensure that your printer is connected to the computer or the network.
  • In a wireless network connection, open the Wireless network or Settings menu to check that the signal is turned on in the printer. The light nearer to the wireless icon is steady
  • In a wired network connection, check whether the cable is connected to the printer Ethernet port and green light is steady while the orange light is blinking
  • If you can print , the printer is online. Otherwise move on to the next step

Step 4 :checking the port status

  • Select Devices and Printers after searching for the devices in Windows. You will notice the Devices and printers window opens
  • Select Printer Properties after right-clicking on the name of your printer
  • Click the Ports tab and search fo ryou printer in the Printers column. Ensure that the port name includes USB or DOT4 if you are using a USB connection between the computer and the printer.
  • Check that the port name includes WSD, network, standard TCP/IP port if your printer uses a network connection.

Step 5 : Printer Firmware Update

Update the printer firmware as HP regularly releases printer updates. This may help in resolving the issue. If the problem persists continue to the next step.

Step 6: Manual network connection

If you have a USB printer connection, you need not try the below steps and continue to other steps. Creating a manal connection is a better option to communicte directly. You can print a network configuration Report or Wireless Test Report from your printer.

Print the report from the network settings if your printer has a control panel with display other wise printe the report using the buttons. To know about the information on how to print a report for your printer model search the HP website for networ configuratin report

Check the network status for your network connection type on the report printout. Continue with the steps if status is connected otherwise this is the reason for your to be in offline status. Find the IP Address, Subnet mask, Default Gateway for your active connection type. Find the URL on the report and enter the URL on your internet browser from a computer that is connected in your network. Use a different search engine if your webpage is blank.

Open the section with your network type(wired/wireless) after clicking the Network or Networking tab.

Click Manual IP. The IP address will be automatially entered if you see the button Sugges a Manual IP Address button. If the button is unavailable type the IP address, subnet mask and default gateway manually.
